Improving competences transversality with Transversal roles
What is a Transversal role and how you can use it
Overview
Much has been written about how essential collaboration is for success. Unfortunately, very few organizations formalize collaboration to make sure it actually happens. The truth is, informal collaboration simply isn't sufficient to keep an organization healthy and competitive. Instead, leading organizations actively foster collaboration by structuring it into their workflow.
On Holaspirit, a circle may decide to invite a role from another circle to participate in its decisions and operations. This new role will be called a Transversal Role.
A Transversal Role is created as a copy from an existing role from another circle and creates a bridge between the two circles.
It allows a role with the required skills to come and work in other circles!
A role can be invited as a Transversal Role in an infinite number of circle with no time limit. In the same way, a circle can contain an infinity of Transversal Role while cannot invite the same role twice.
Benefits:
With the Transversal Roles, your team can work together in a collaborative and horizontal way to manage cross-circle projects. A Transversal Role allows to :
- Foster innovation, collaboration and skills sharing by bringing in more expertise.
- Improve flexibility and break down barriers between the different circles of the same organization.
- Prevent duplicate roles.
- Increase the speed of decision making and its implementation.
Here’s how your organization can work fast to avoid missing out on promising opportunities.
Transversal Roles - Example
Work is sometimes done in teams or projects, in working circles, where all employees participate at the same level in the organization's purpose. In this context, a role in the organization may be required to work in another circle on an ad hoc or permanent basis.
Let's take the example of the Designer role.
He intervenes in the Product circle to design the user experience on the software. He has a list of accountabilities in this circle.
His expertise can be mandated by the Marketing circle to design the user experience on the organization's website.
The Marketing circle decides to create a transversal role and invites the designer to participate in the life of the circle, contribute to projects and strategic decisions. The Marketing circle can define additional accountabilities, areas of focus for the Transversal Role in the Marketing Circle to guide his mission and may decide who is assigned to the role.
All members of the Designer role inside the circle Product are automatically assigned to the Transversal Role in the circle Marketing.
